WELCOME TO ARCHAEOLOGICAL ARTICLES BY
THOMAS E BROWNER
I have been active in archaeology for over 44 years. It is an interest I began at age 5 and never outgrew. As the main monitor of State and Federal legislation on Archaeological matters for Central States Archaeological Societies for the past 18 years, I have witnessed many changes. Many of these changes were created by bureaucracy's which postulated rules, some contrary to the laws and their intent, to cover the responsibilities for archaeological features and artifacts under their jurisdiction. Liberal Judges have expanded some laws like the Archaeological Resources Protection Act far from their original intent. Legislation from the bench rather than through legal channels through Congress. As Past Editor of the Hawkeye State Archaeological Society, contributor to a couple of books and several other journals, I have chronicled many of these decisions, their effects on archaeology. I have written about the laws, the Slack Farm, the G E Mound Affair, the Kennewick Man and numerous other topics.
My feeling is that this Country has become so politically correct, short sighted and ignorant; that we may well see the end of archaeology, North American Amerid museum collections and research within this generation. To fight this, I have anointed my poison pen and pop as many hot air balloons as possible. If you are interested in history, pre-historic man in America, archaeology, modern sociology and popular politics; you may find some of these articles interesting.
Agree or disagree, It's cheaper than buying a book. Send comments to firstname.lastname@example.org/
